We pride ourselves on combining trial-tested advocacy with a client-centered approach, ensuring every client receives the attention, compassion, and guidance they deserve throughout their legal journey.

Position Summary

Leeder Law is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who will oversee critical financial functions of the firm, especially those unique to a plaintiff personal-injury practice: managing the trust account, performing bookkeeping, negotiating, and securing reductions with medical providers / lien holders, and coordinating closing statements for settlements. This role crosses the traditional bookkeeping role with the responsibilities of a reductions specialist in a litigation context.

Key Responsibilities

Trust Account & Case-Settlement Closing

  • Record all deposits and disbursements for client trust funds accurately and timely.
  • Reconcile trust account bank statements monthly and immediately flag issues.
  • Coordinate with attorneys, paralegals, and settlement staff on closing statements: review outstanding liens, bills, expenses; verify reductions; draft/distribute settlement ledgers and closing statements to clients and co-counsel.
  • Ensure proper allocation of settlement funds: client net, attorney fees, costs, medical provider payments, other judgments/lien pay-offs.
  • Ensure lien holders/medical providers are paid timely in accordance with closing statements and client authorizations.
  • Maintain and monitor the firm’s trust account in compliance with Florida Bar and fiduciary rules.

Bookkeeping / Financial Management

  • Maintain firm’s operating accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll (if applicable), credit card reconciliation, bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and generate monthly financial reports: profit & loss, balance sheet, cash-flow summaries, trust-vs-operating account splits.
  • Interface with external CPA / tax preparer for year-end and audit-type functions.
  • Maintain and enforce accounting policies and internal controls (especially around trust funds and client recoveries).
  • Keep up-to-date on Florida Bar trust account rules, law-firm billing and settlement best practices.

Medical Provider / Lien Reductions & Negotiations

  • Review medical bills, provider invoices, outstanding liens, and statements in connection with settlement cases.
  • Initiate contact, negotiate with medical providers, hospitals, imaging centers, labs, and lien holders to obtain reasonable reductions (discounts) consistent with the firm’s business model and client net recovery objectives.
  • Maintain database/tracking of lien reductions: original amount, negotiated amount, provider contact, status of payment.
  • Collaborate with case team and settlement negotiator to ensure that reductions, provider releases and final payment instructions are completed before closing.
  • Ensure documentation of reduction negotiations, approvals, provider releases, and integration of savings into closing statements for client transparency.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-5 years of bookkeeping or full-charge bookkeeping experience in a law-firm or other professional service environment.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with QuickBooks.
  • Prior experience handling trust accounts or escrow accounts in a legal setting highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with personal-injury law firm workflows (settlements, liens, medical bills) is a strong plus.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills (for provider reduction work).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, high integrity (especially with trust funds), strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, settlement team, and external providers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related field preferred, but not required with sufficient experience.
  • Experience in or knowledge of Florida Bar rules/regulations related to trust accounts and law-firm billing is a plus.

Key Competencies / Soft Skills

  • High ethical standard: trustworthy, discrete handling of client funds and sensitive data.
  • Analytical mindset: able to review statements, identify reduction opportunities, reconcile accounts.
  • Proactive and self-motivated: able to anticipate lien issues, escalate as needed, drive the closing-statement process.
  • Strong communication and negotiation: dealing with medical providers, hospitals, vendor pay-offs.
  • Tech-savvy: comfortable with accounting software, practice-management systems, and improving workflows.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Full-time, on-site role in the South Florida office.
  • Fast-paced, growth-oriented personal-injury firm environment; staff must be adaptable and able to manage competing deadlines.
