In November 2020, 17-year-old Alissa Espaillat was senselessly shot and killed inside a Travelodge motel room in Pompano Beach. A bright student at Coconut Creek High School and beloved twin sister, Alissa was struck by gunfire after an altercation escalated outside room 123. She was transported to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Surveillance footage showed two individuals—Jayla Patton and Deangelo Cincord—at the scene. Cincord was seen firing a weapon into the room, resulting in Alissa’s death. Both suspects were arrested and charged in connection with the shooting.
Our firm had the honor of representing Alissa’s grieving family in a wrongful death action. Through determined legal advocacy, we secured the full $1 million policy limits from the motel’s insurance provider. While no amount of money can replace Alissa’s life, this result reflects a measure of accountability and justice.
We continue to stand with Alissa’s family and all victims of preventable violence.
