In early 2024, catastrophic losses came to light when Leo Govoni—the founder of the Center for Special Needs Trust Administration—was found to have misappropriated over $100 million from special needs trusts meant to support vulnerable disabled individuals.
Court filings reveal that more than 1,500 accounts were drained through alleged “unauthorized loans” to Govoni-controlled companies, including Boston Finance Group and Big Storm Brewing. The Center filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after identifying a $100 million shortfall.
A federal judge subsequently issued on order holding Govoni liable for as much as $122 million in missing trust funds, imposing restraining orders to prevent dissipation of assets across 150+ entities under his control.
